Answer Question number 9 .
Q.9. Give reasons for the following:
i. Silicon counts among metalloids.
ii. Carbon is not used for making aluminium from aluminium oxide.
iii. Metal conduct electricity.

1. silicon counts among metalloids as it shows both the charecteristics of metals as well as of non-metals. it has 4 electrons in its outershell and are quite stable so it can loose 4 electrons like metals and gain 4 electrons like non-metals. Also silicon is a semiconductor .
2. carbon is not used in getting aluminium from its oxide as oxide of aluminium is very stable and using carbon to get aluminium will cost so much monh . In short it is very expensive.

3. Metals conduct electricity because of flow of electrons. Electrons present in metals can move freely even in solid state of metal and hence conduct. electricity
