Answer the question given in the following:--

Solution:
During thunderstorm, when a charged cloud passes over an uncharged cloud, uncharged cloud acquires opposite charge by induction and the two clouds attract. When they combine with each other, they produce a large amount of heat, light and sound also known as lightning.

A lightning conductor is a device used to protect buildings from the effect of lightning. A metal rod taller than the building is installed in the walls of the building during its construction. One end of the rod is kept out in the air and the other is buried deep in the ground.
The rod provides an easy route for the transfer of electric charge to the ground thereby protecting the building from damage.
