The mother tongue is often passed onto a child from parents or family members. The learning of a language opens up several new possibilities for an infant to explore the world and to express themselves.

There are several benefits of knowing more than one language, especially when working outside one’s hometown. However, on being addressed in the mother tongue in a foreign city helps the conversation reach one’s heart because of nostalgia.

Several pieces of research conducted by psychologists showed that people react differently when shown words of their mother language in comparison to when shown words of other known languages. Hence, we can conclude by saying that the importance of the mother tongue is undeniable.

Mother tongue is the first language we acquire naturally. The language of our mother is more important than anything else. Language is a natural phenomenon. It is a creation of man’s social needs. A child after its birth hears the language of his parents. Infants usually imitates whatever they see or hear. Thus his tongue slides early according to the slang he tries to make. Thus he will naturally speak his mother tongue. But a second language is to be taught and it will be difficult for the child.

Language is a extremely complex and versatile code that is used to communicate our thoughts and desires and experiences to other person. Man experiences his opinion and desires in mother tongue. If a man makes a speech or if he communicates in other language, it deserves only the second place. It is just because we think only in our mother tongue.

We can say that English is an international language, used in many countries. But it is used in different accent and style in different countries. It is because the slang of our mother tongue mixes with English. Thus the influence of mother tongue.

Language and human culture are intimately related and the one is indispensable to the other. When man’s attention is turning towards analyzing his culture, it is natural that he should attempt to examine in detail means of communication. This is essential to his society.
“Language is a purely human and non-instinctive method of communicating ideas, emotions and desires by means of a system of voluntarily produced symbols. These symbols are in the first instance auditory and they are produced by so called organs of speech”.

Whatever be our mother tongue we have to accept it. It is no doubt that man expresses his hidden feelings in his mother tongue. To satisfy the objectives of learning one has to use his mother tongue also. Because without grasping the meaning of what one is studying one cannot learn it. We understand and think in our mother tongue. Mother tongue influence will follow a man till his death.
