No, Symplast requires more energy than Apoplast.
It is because, Apoplastic movement occurs through non-living parts of the plant. There is little resistance to the movement of molecules in Apoplastic movement. Also, in this movement, the metabolic state of root does not affect the movement of molecules. So, there is little energy requirement.
But, it is vice versa in case of symplastic movement. It ocuurs through living parts of the plant(protoplasm) and so, it has comparitively higher resistance to transport of molecules. The metabolic stage of the root affects the movement of molecules. So, there is higher energy need.
