Are streptococci and staphylococci different?

Hi Vaikhari,

Yes, Streptococci and staphylococci are different genera. Both genera are Gram positive and have the similar spherical cell shape, but the arrangement of cells is different in both.
Streptococci occur in chain of round cells due to division in one linear direction, whereas staphylococci occur in grape- like clusters due to division in various directions. They are catalase positive.

Hope this answer helps,

All the best!
