Areas of land which is corved with concrete affect the availabity of ground water. Why?

  • Groundwater is water located beneath the earth's surface. It is found underground in the cracks and spaces in soil, sand and rock. Groundwater is naturally replenished by surface water from precipitation, streams, and rivers when this recharge reaches the water table. Ground water can recharge naturally by rains. Dams, tanks, canals like irrigation methods can recharge ground water naturally.

  • Urbanization results in extensive digging of surface that affects the ground water level.
  • Due to paving and hard surfacing in cities for houses, apartments, industries, the concrete basement restricts the ground water recharge. Rain water fails to percolate and maintain the volume of ground water.
  • Water harvesting technique is the best way to recharge the ground water. We will try to protect ponds and lakes of our locality. We can also suggest builders and house owners to build water harvesting tanks.
