arrange the following alcohols in the order of increasing reactivity towards lucas reagent.
2-butalnal .1-butanal , 2-methyl-2-propanol

Lucas reagent is used to differentiate between primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols.
The reactive nature is due to the formation of stable carbocation. The one which will form stable carbocation will react faster.
So, tertiary will react faster than secondary and primary will react very less.
So,the order of 2-butanol , 1-butanol, 2-methyl 2-propanol is:
2-methyl 2-propanol>2-butanol>1-butanol

  • 6
Tertiary > secondary > primary
  • 2
