Article on "Live Every Moment"

To believe or not to believe in rebirth is the question. An existential answer best addresses this. There are two viewpoints on rebirth ? one for it, one against it. You are free to follow either. What is more significant is to live life to the fullest with complete awareness and never to harm anyone. The contrary view on rebirth holds: Whatever is, is in this life itself. So follow your dreams; attain your desires; fulfil your ambitions; you have but one life; live it large. Any means employed in the pursuit of happiness is justified.

Faithful adherents of the philosophy of rebirth, say birth is karmic. According to them, birth is preordained by the sum of our karmas, actions from previous lives. We are thus caught in a cycle of birth-death-rebirth, life after life. As it is, we sow more than we reap; all that karma amasses in our consciousness. At the hour of death, this karma is decisive in scripting our next birth.

Further, the complexities we face in life are also attributed to this karmic cause and effect. Thus, some are born rich, some poor, some are whole and healthy, others suffer from disease or disability. Some get everything on a platter without lifting a finger,? born with a silver spoon in the mouth?; others toil and suffer with no end in sight.

?Some are blessed, some are blighted. Given such diverse fates and lifelines, one concludes that this is simply karma at play. One should aspire for life?s intangibles ? bliss, happiness, hope, health and goodwill. Refrain from lies and untruths, stealing and covetousness, and defilements of lust. Be a seeker of knowledge. And above all, choose love.
