How a change took place in the heart of Begger???

Dear Student,

The beggar, Lushkoff, never wanted to do any work. However, he changed because of Olga. She was the one who chopped wood for him. She called him a ‘miserable creature’ and said that there was nothing for him but ruin. She sat down opposite to him, grew sad, looked into his face and wept. She addressed him as an ‘unlucky man’, who was also drunkard and unhappy. She said that there was no pleasure for him in this world. All this saved Lushkoff and brought a change in him. He even stopped drinking at the sight of her. It was because of her words and noble deeds that a change took place in his heart.

The beggar never wanted to do any work...He only had to say yes to Sergei because he didn't want to be turned in to the police. When Sergei took him home, the cook, Olga was frustrated with the beggar as he was not able to do any work properly because of his drinking habits. She used to curse him and berate him...But after she saw that he was not even able to do a simple task like chopping wood, she felt bad for him and expressed her sympathy by chopping up the wood for him. But she would never tell Sergei that she chopped the wood and not the beggar. She always let him take the pay and did all the work for him. When Sergei saw this, he was moved by Olga's display of kindness towards him.

The very act of Olga letting him take the money for the work he didn't do caused a change of heart for the beggar.
