ASSERTION - AFTER A RAIN SHOWER , A RAINBOW GETS FORMED IN THE SKY IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS SUN

REASON - WATER DROPLETS ACTS AS TINY PRISM

KINDLY ANS THIS QUESTION EXPERTS

Dear Student,
After rainfall, the rainbow forms in front of us when the sun is behind us so that the sun rays after getting reflected from the drops get into our eyes. So, the assertion is WRONG.
The light from the sun enters the drops at an angle greater than the critical angle so the light gets reflected from the inner surface of the drop and dispersed into component colours. Since the light gets dispersed by the drop, a property which is most common in a prism, it can be referred that the drop acts as a prism. So, the reason is CORRECT.

Answer-

Assertion is False but Reason is true.

Explanation
A rainbow is always formed in a direction opposite to that of the Sun so that the sunlight incident on the water droplets (acting as prism) can be easily refracted and dispersed thus forming a rainbow.
