'Astrocytes presumably separate and provide mechanical strength to the nervous system' - what does the line mean by 'presumably separate' ? What are the functions of astrocytes? Please explain in detail !!

Astrocytes are star shaped cells which perform variety of functions in the central nervous system.

Functions:
They provide nourishment to the neurons.
They provide the neurons with some chemicals needed for the proper functioning of the neurons.
They also help to repair the brain and spinal cord if they have undergone traumatic injuries.
They also maintain extracellular ionic balance.

In the line Astrocytes presumably separate and provide mechanical strength to the nervous system' means that astrocytes must be doing these functions based on what we know about astrocytes, but we are not certain about it. (They may be doing or may not be doing).

Something is true based on what you know, although you are not really certain
I hope you got it!
