At 11:22 a.m. there was a call for Stephens from the governor. Was the call genuine? What was its purpose?

Dear Student,

The call for Stephens from the governor was a hoax told Stephens to accompany McLeery to the main gates and lock Evans inside the cell properly. It was intended to create panic among the officials when they learn about the miserable condition of McLeery who was still inside the cell. It was to limit the number of people around the cell to let the act inside the cell be prepared. Stephens was baffled to see McLeery inside the cell when he himself had dropped him to the gates and therefore an atmosphere of chaos ensued that made it easier for Evans to escape and fall prey to his plan.

At 11.22 a.m. came a call from the Governor. He ordered Stephens to accompany McLeery to the main prison gates. Stephens was to make absolutely sure that the door of Evans' cell was locked.
The call was fake. It was a part of Evans's strategy to confuse the already panicky staff of the prison.

no the the call was not genuine from the side of governor. Stephene was doing his biggest mistake ,that on phone "governor told (as a third person realise after reading the whole story) him to give company to McLerry to main gate but remember the door should be locked properly.
