At the end of the winter season, a shopkeeper earns a profit of Rs 100 by selling a shirt but incurred a loss of Rs 50 on selling a woollen jacket. At the end of sale on one day, he incurred a loss of Rs 200 while he sold 10 jackets. How many shirts did he sell on that day?
Dear Student
Given :
Profit earned by selling a shirt =Rs.100
The loss incurred by selling a Woollen jacket =Rs.50
Total loss incurred at the end of the day =Rs.200
Number of jackets sold =10
To find :
We have to find the number of jackets he sold on the day.
Solution :
Loss incurred by selling jackets =Rs.10×50=Rs.500
Let the number of shirts sold be p.
Profit earned by selling p shirts =Rs.p×100=Rs.100p.
Therefore,
Rs.500−Rs.100p=Rs.200
100p=500−200
100p=300
p=3.
Therefore, the number of shirts sold on that day is 3.
