At the same temperature which will move faster , N2 or Cl2
Dear Student,
We use the concept of most probable velocity to determine which gas will move faster at the same temperature.
The formula of most probable velocity is:
Nitrogen gas has a mass of 28 u and chlorine gas has a mass of 71 u.
Since velocity is inversely proportional to the square root of the molecular mass, lower the molecular mass, higher will be the velocity, at the same temperature.
Thus, N2 will move faster than Cl2.
Hope it helps.
