AT THE STAGE OF COCOON WHY DOES THE SILK WORM WRAP ITSELF IN 8 SHAPE ?

Dear student

When caterpillar of silkworm moves to next stage of pupa it weaves a net and make side wise head movements. During this movement it secrete a fibre which is made up of protein .This fibre hardens when exposed to air and becomes silk. By the movements and constant secretion of fibre, pupa covers itself completely by silk fibres and cocoon is formed.
