b)  Why does Derry's mother not want him to go back to visit Mr. Lamb?

d)  What does the poet's smile in the poem 'My Mother at Sixty - Six show?

Dear Student,
b)  Derry's mother did not have a favourable opinion of Mr. Lamb. She had heard things about him that led her to have a negative impression of Mr. Lamb and thus did not want Derry to visit him.

d) The poet's smile signifies the pain that she tries to hide behind it. Her parting ways and smile gives hope to her mother that they will meet again. She smiles to end things on a good note.
