Big dams advantages and limitations

2. In producing electricity, they support.
3. Huge volumes of water can be transported over long distances through canal networks leading from these dams.
Disadvantages:
1. Social issues since without ample compensation or rehabilitation, they displace large numbers of peasants and tribals.
2. Economic issues because without producing proportionate benefits, they swallow up large sums of public capital.
3. Environmental issues because they contribute significantly to the loss of biological diversity and deforestation.
