briefly discuss the various reason for development of infrastructure by the british government

Dear Student,
Reasons behind the development of infrastructure by the British government were to foster or benefit their colonial interest.
Britishers improved the infrastructure by developing the transportation and communication like development of ports, construction of roads, telegraphs, etc. It was for their colonial interest rather than for accelerating the growth of the Indian economy. Railways and roads were developed to transport the finished goods from Britain to India and spreading within India so to widen the British market. Ports were developed for the import of British made finished goods to India and export of raw materials to Britain. Communication was developed by the way of posts and telegraphs so as to make their administration efficient. It was a way of development of British economy and not the development and growth of Indian economy. It produced greater demerits as they exploited the Indian market and made an effective way out to transport Indian raw materials to their home country, rather than merits.
