Briefly mention the mechanism of actionof FSH.

Folliclestimulating hormone (FSH) is secreted by the pars distalis region ofthe anterior pituitary.

Itregulates the development, growth, and reproductive processes of thehuman body. In the ovary, FSH stimulates the growth and maturation ofovarian follicle. As the follicle grows and matures, it releases aninhibitory hormone known as inhibin that ends the process of FSHproduction.

Action ofFSH: Follicle stimulating hormone produces its effect by binding toits specific receptors present on the ovarian cell membrane.

Binding ofFSH hormone to its receptor leads to the formation of hormonereceptor complex. The formation of this complex leads to biochemicalchanges in the ovarian follicle, present in the ovarian. The ovarianfollicles mature and release a mature ovum in the fallopian tube forfertilization.
