Bryophytes are more evolved than algae because of more differentiated plant body.

The plant body in algae is simple, thalloid (not differentiated) into roots and shoots. However the body of bryophytes is more differentiated than algae and may possess roots like, leaf like or stem like structures. The root like structures are called rhizoids, which help in the attachment with the substratum.
