burning cotton smells like burning paper, whereas burning wool smells like burning hair. why?

Dear Student,

Cotton contains fibre similar to paper made from wood hence they smell like paper while burning while wool is an sheep hair which contains proteins which on burning will smell similar to human hair.

Regards.

This is because cotton is a natural plant fibre and obtained from plants and paper is also obtained from trees so both have a same smell when burnt, but wool is obtained from animals like sheep, goat etc and it is the fleece (hair and dead part of upper skin) of the animals so burning wool smells like burning hair.
