Calculate the oxidation number of Mn in KMnO4, S in H2S4O6and P in H2P2O7?

Oxidation no. of K = +1
Oxidation no. of O = -2

Let the oxidation number of Mn be x.
In KMnO4,
                   1X(+1) + 1X(x) + 4X(-2) = 0
              or, 1 + x - 8 = 0
              or, x - 7 = 0
             or, x = +7
Therefore, the oxidation number of Mn in KMnO4 is +7.

ii) Oxidation number of P in H2P2O7
Let oxidation number be x

2 + 2x -14 = 0
x = +6
