Critical appraisal of health infrastructure;
India has about 17% of the world's population but it bears 20% of the Global Burden of Diseases.Half of these diseases are diarrhoea,malaria and TB. Every year, about 5 lakh children die of water-borne diseases.Malnutrition and inadequate supply of vaccines lead to the death of 2.2 millionchildren every year.
At present, less than 20% of the population utilises public health facilities. Only 38% of the PHCs have sufficient amount of doctors and nurses and only 30% of PHCs have an adequate amount of medicine stock.
