In the day, finding stars were difficult so people had to wait until night to see the direction. Therefore, with the compass, we can find directions even during the day. Stars were very helpful in finding directions at night but at day-time, we can not use stars to find direction. So a magnet or compass is better in finding directions at day and even at night.
