Can ELISA be used for molecular diagnosis of a genetic disorder such as phenylketonuria?

hi...!!

ELISA is based on the ability of low molecular weights antibodies to couple with enzymes, to produce enzymatically active immunological conjugates. We can detect the immune reaction with histochemical staining techniques becase antibody component is involved in the immune reaction and the conjugated enzyme can be used for staining  reaction using an appropriate susbstrate . This test detects the presence of antigen and antibodies in the serum of a patient ..

On the other hand, phenylketonuria is due to the excess of phenylalanine in blood..

Hencxe, ELISA cannot detect as such genetic disorders...

 Cheers!!!
