Can someone explain meaning of phrase 'red rubber'

Dear Student,
"Red Rubber" was a name assigned to the brutal slave system of Africa during the late 1800s. The labors in Congo were forced to work in order to maximize the rubber production for King Leopold for nothing. The enforcement included mass murder, killing, cutting off the right hand of labors and mutilation. African labor's blood was referred to as "Red" in this phrase.
