Can you please tell the difference between will and shall and their uses

Dear student,

Here is the answer:

Shall and Will are modal verbs. They are used with main verbs. Both of them are used to express events that are going to happen in the future.
For example: I will go to the market.
I shall not be leaving right now.
Here the main verbs are go and leaving.

a) Shall: We use shall with first person "I" and "We'. It is more formal than will.

For example:  We shall book tickets for the show.
                        I shall be leaving soon.

b) Will: It is used to express events that would be taking place in near future. It is also used to express strong determination and to make predictions about the future. Will is used with promises and voluntary actions too.

For example: I promise, I will complete my homework.(promise and determination)
They will win the match. (prediction)
                      I will help him.(voluntary)

'Shall' is usually used in the first person i.e. 'I' and 'we'.

For example:

We shall be inviting the chief minister to the annual meet.

I shall not attend the classes tomorrow.

'Will' is used in all persons to express future. The use of 'will' is more common in modern English.

For example:

They will not understand your language.

He said he will try to perform better next year.
