Chola Empire: Chola empire gained power in last half of 9th Century and existed till the 13th century. Vijayalaya captured the Kaveri delta from Muttaraiyar which is subordinate to the Pallavas. They made Thanjavur as capital and built temple for Goddess Nishumbhasudeni there. The Chola dynasty flourished under the reign of his successors. Rajaraja chola is regarded as the greatest chola ruler which came into power in 985 CE. His son, Rajendra I extended the empire upto Ganga valley, Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.

Pala Empire: Pala Empire is regarded as the golden era in Bengali history. They held power between 750 AD - 1162 AD. Pala dynasty was formed by the ruler Gopala in 750 AD. His son Dharma pala was great Pala ruler which ruled Bengal and Bihar. Deva Pala began trade connections with south eastern Asia. They built monuments like Somapura Mahavihara (Bangladesh), Odantapuri Monastery. Pala empire lost power to Hindu Sena dynasty in the 12th century.
