Carbon dioxide is useful as it has many uses such as:

• Used in preparation of aerated drinks.
• Used in fire extinguishers to put out fire.
• Used in manufacture of washing soda.
• Solid carbon dioxide is used a coolant.
• Used in artificial respiration.
• Used for purification of sugar.

Carbon dioxide is harmful because-

• its increasing volume in the atmosphere is chiefly responsible for green house effect
• its long exposure to lungs can badly affect the process of  respiration and can cause severe diseases.
