Cells consist of many organelles, yet we do not call any of these organelles as structural and functional unit of living organisms.Explain.

Dear student,

A cell organelle  is a structure found in the cytoplasm of a cell and it performs a specific function. E.g, Mitochondria ,Endoplasmic reticulum, Chloroplasts ( Present only in plant cell ), Golgi Complex , Lysosomes etc. All these organelles perform specific function within a cell and thus are equally important for a cell to perform various metabolic activities therefore it cannot be said that a particular organelle is structural or functional unit of living organism. However, it is a cell that contain all these organelles and therefore able to perform all the functions in a body and thus,a  cell is known as the basic structural and functional unit of life or known as building blocks of life.

Regards.
