The chapter "The Sermon at Benares" throws light on the character of Buddha. As a child, Prince Siddhartha lived in the comfort of his palace. It was only later in his life that he witnessed the sorrows of his fellow human beings. Buddha's decision to renounce worldly life shows his personality that was perceptive of human suffering. Buddha did not turn a blind eye to illness and mortality, instead, he was deeply affected by what he saw. In addition to his empathising nature, was his curiosity and determined will to remain in search of truth until he finds his answers. When Buddha became the enlightened one, he started preaching his knowledge in order to share his experience with the suffering people suggesting his helpful nature. Buddha wanted to make this world a better abode for the brief stay of mortals. He preached through examples and encouraged self-liberation, just like he asked the mother to herself look for a house where no beloved has died. Death was inescapable and he said it was wise to be accepting of death and decay. Thus, Buddha emanated calm and warmth through his personality and showed the path to enlightenment to his disciples.
