Mrs Pearson is the submissive and docile protagonist of the play. She is neglected by her family and treated as a slave. Living her life in servitude, she has forgotten her individuality and the respect that she deserves in her family. She lives for her family and has forgotten that she has a life of her own.
Mrs Fitzgerald is Pearson's neighbour and an exact contrary of Mrs Pearson. She is a bold, dominating woman who lives life on her own terms. She is aggressive in nature and talks aggressively with the Pearson family while acting as Mrs. Pearson. she is 'older, heavier and strong sinister personality'.
Cyril is the son of Pearsons. He is a spoilt child and wants all the things to be done by his mother. He is someone who doesn't do something that is not liked by him. Mrs. Pearson parallels herself with him when she says 'I've joined the movement' for she also refuses to do what she doesn't like.
George Pearson is the husband of Mrs. Pearson. He is a dominating husband who would force her wife to prepare tea for him and in case the tea is not ready he would shout at her. He is a pompous man who would never shout at the bartender for being late but would never fail to shout at his wife. He is taken aback when his wife calls him by his name.
Mrs Fitzgerald and Mrs. Pearson have a role reversal for a day. Mrs. Fitzgerald is a more assertive and bolder woman than Mrs Pearson. She makes the Pearson family realise the importance Mrs Pearson as an individual. Her family took her for granted and treated her like a servant in the house. It was through Fitzgerald's assertiveness and aggressiveness that they realised that she deserves respect and care by her family members.

Yes, Mrs. Fitzgerald's magic helped the Pearson family for better, it was instrumental in bringing a significant day in Mrs Pearson's life, a turning point, she was able to get herself free from the state of being suppressed all the time, finally the family realised her importance ,both the children realised the value of their selfless mother and Mr. Pearson realised the value of his never demanding wife.

Mrs. Fitzgerald is quite experienced and smart. She knows some esoteric magic that she learned in the East. She is heavier and has a 'strong and sinister personality'. She is liberated, strong, dominating and bold. She smokes and plays cards. Mrs Fitzgerald has a deep voice. Her accent is Irish. Mrs. Fitzgerald is firm, solid an d result -oriented. She sets all the spoilt members of Mrs. Pearson's family right.
Mrs. Pearson
Mrs. Pearson appears to be a timid and confused lady. She is in her forties. She is a devoted housewife. She enjoys serving her husband and children. She is ignored and made to work throughout the day. In spite of their ill treatment, neglect and exploitation, she loves them all. In fact, for that she endures everything without any murmur or protest. We feel sympathy for her. We wish her to be a little more assertive. However, Mrs. Fitzgerald brings about a change in her personality. She helps her to become more assertive and dominating at the end.
