Some characteristics features of nuclear force that distinguish it from Coulomb force are:

1. Nuclear forces are strong short ranged forces. The range of nuclear force is 10^-15 m. Coulomb force is a long range force.

2. Strong nuclear force results because of exchange of virtual particles called gluons which in turn results in nuclear force by exchange of meson between the nucleons or weak forces that takes place because of exchange of W bosons. Coulomb force results from interaction of charged particles.

3. Strong nuclear force is always attractive and is so strong that it holds the nucleons within the nucleus. Coulomb force can be repulsive as well as attractive.
