The owner of the costume shop was a lonely man (As we can see, he was staying alone). But he had terrific hearing sensation, this we can see when suddenly stops when the invisible man makes only a slight noise. He had his own revolver from which we can understand that he is a person who cares for protection from others. He was also a little short-tempered person. He was not frightened when he heard the noises,instead he became more aware of his surroundings. 

It is very helpful man. You guys dont have the sense at all
