Coal is used to generate electricity. Why?

Dear Student,
Coal-powered power plants use thermal energy to produce electricity.
The heat released as a result of combustion of coal in excess of oxygen is used to heat water in the boilers.
This converts water to steam.
This steam at very high pressure is passes to turn the turbines which in turn generate electricity.
The steam is cooled and converted back to water to repeat the same process.
And the Carbon dioxide produced can be recycled for preparation of other chemical substances
