Coffee is present in which acid base and salt

Dear Student

Coffee is acidic in nature. Coffee contains hundreds of other compounds in addition to caffeine. Like citric, malic, lactic, and acetic acid etc. and Phosphoric acid, an inorganic acid is also present and many more are there. Moreover it has a pH of approx. 5.0. The factors that determine acidity of coffee are:-
  • The soil that the coffee bean was grown in. If it was grown in soil that is very acidic then it too will be more acidic in nature.
  • What is added to the coffee itself. Many people prefer milk or creamer in their coffee. This will make it less acidic.
