Comment on the phrase wedding band with relevance to the contemporary society

Dear student

A wedding band is the wedding ring worn by both men and woman. In the poem 'Aunt Jennifer's tigers', the aunt is wearing a wedding band, which is described as being heavy. This is a symbolic representation of the oppression she feels as a woman in a male dominated world. As a woman, she is forced into stereotypical jobs like sewing, and she cannot break free due to the weight (i.e.) the burden of marriage. This is true in quite a few contemporary societies, where wives do not have a say in their everyday actions. Their actions are dictated by men instead.
