comment the role of evans friends in his escape.

Despite all the elaborate arrangements made for the examination to avoid prison break by the Governor, Evans’ friend impersonating McLeery, the invigilator, managed to smuggle the material necessary for Evans’ disguise, into the prison cell. The friend came to the prison wearing two parson’s dresses with black fronts and collars; also bringing an extra pair of spectacles with him. The blood was brought inside the cell by him in his rubber ring, which he told the prison authorities was necessary for him to sit on, as he had a condition of haemorrhoids. This ring was filled with pig’s blood from a slaughterhouse in Kidlington. To prevent clotting it was mixed with one-tenth of its volume of 3.8 per cent trisodium citrate. All this was passed on to Evans when Stephens’ vigilant eyes were away from the peephole. As for the real parson, he was gagged and bound at his own apartment by Evans’ friends. Evans impersonating McLeery stayed in, while Evans’ friend also impersonating McLeery left the prison after the examination was over. After dodging the police by faking his injury and being left at the hospital, Evans was almost rearrested by the Governor in the hotel where he had gone after his escape. He was handcuffed and made to sit in a prison van. But the prison officer and the driver were Evans’ friends who helped him with his final escape. Thus, the able help of his friends at every step helped Evans’ make his escape a successful.
