It was a rainy day. The night outside was pitch dark. I could tell the world was alive through the sounds it made. The rustle of the leaves, the heavy wheezing of the gale, the occasional thunder and the gentle pitter patter of the last drizzle of monsoon. Our garden path was made of hard stone, I could hear the sounds of footsteps if someone came our way even if I could not see the person in the dark. I heard footsteps on the stone path, cautious footsteps coming to the door. There was no one at home, I live alone. I walked slowly towards the door, lengthening the time between this familiar meeting with the stranger. I knew the footsteps that were coming towards the house, it meant something to me. Slowly, the door opened, I heard it creak when it turned on its joints. There was a person standing ahead of me, light falling on his body from the lamp above the door. He came in and I went out. The house had an occupant at last. It had been long abandoned since its last occupant passed away. They hung a picture of him so that the house wasn't completely empty. I took one last look at the picture to remember myself as I used to look. Now I don't know how I look or what form I have, no mirror can tell me the truth, I have gone beyond such human things. I walk into the darkness and he walks into the light. We do not tell each other goodbye. He cannot see me but he hears my footsteps on the stone path. I cannot be seen, only heard.
