Considering the limited availability of pasture land in India, how does most of our livestock population sustain itself ?

Sustainability of livestock population in India due to lack of pasture land has been a problem for those who practise animal husbandry. In order to sustain livestock, forest areas had to be cleared for new pastures or animal feed has to be procured by artificial methods using technology. But, in India, creation of artificial feed through technology is not possible in a huge extent so land has to be cleared up. Even deforestation has adverse consequences. So, livestock has to be fed on decreased area of pasture lands.
