A dry cell contains zinc can.A paste of ammonium chloride is applied on the inner walls of the can.A cardboard box is present inside the zinc can.It contains a mixture of manganese dioxide and carbon.A carbon rod is inserted in between of the cell.The whole thing is then packed in a metal can.Only the metal cap and the base of zinc can are exposed.The metal cap acts as anode and the base acts as cathode.Electricity is produced by the chemical reaction between  manganese dioxide,carbon and ​ammonium chloride through the tiny pores in the cardboard.
