dear experts

why goats are called as poor mans cow ??explain me the reason

Dear student,

Goat has been often called as a poor man’s cow because of its contribution to the poor man’s economy due to various benefits. Goats are easily available and cheaper to maintain as compared to other livestock. They supply nutritious and more easily digestible milk (goat's milk is finer than cow milk) to the children of poor and landless agricultural labourers or marginal farmers and also its a regular source of additional income for them as domestic goats are raised for  producing meat, milk, hide, fibre and manure. Being small-sized animals, goats can easily be managed by women and children as compared to cows. Feeding, milking and care of goats as compared to other livestock does not require much equipment and hard work. Capital investment and feeding costs are also quite low. Four goats can be maintained as cheaply as one indigenous cow. Goats can be successfully reared in areas where fodder resources are limited and milch cattle do not thrive. In rural areas, goat farming plays a vital role in providing gainful employment to the local people.

Regards.
