Debate for and against on topic "simple living and higher thinking"

Points for the motion:

• "Simple living and higher thinking"  is a famous saying that has inspired a lot of people.
• This saying basically states that how simple living aids higher thinking.
• People who live simple lives are not materialistic and therefore invest their time in more rewarding area i.e they think more and achieve more in life.

Points against the motion:

• The saying "simple living and higher thinking" instils in people that living a simple life is necessary to achieve something great.
• The saying "simple living and higher thinking"  proposes a one-way road i.e have a simple life to have higher thinking; though this method may have worked for some people, it does not guarantee success for everyone.
• It creates a paradox. As if higher thinking equals success then it would lead to wealth. And as wealth accumulates it becomes increasingly tough to lead a simple life.
