define aerosol, emulsion, sol, gel
Dear student!
Aerosols: It is a system in which the solid particles or liquid droplets are suspended in the air or other gaseous environment. The aerosols can be natural or man made both and they vary in size and composition.
Some common examples are : smog, smoke, and cloud etc.
Emulsion : It is a mixture of two or more liquid which are generally immiscible in nature. Ex: Milk.
Sol: Sols are the colloidal solution of very small solid particles in a liquid as the dispersion medium and so termed as sol= solid+ liquid.
They are very stable colloids and have the tendency to show the Tyndall effect, which includes the scattering of light by dispersed particles of the medium.
The common examples are; blood, paint, pigmented ink etc.
Gel: It is a colloid in which the disperse phase has combined with the dispersion medium to produce a semisolid material, such as a jelly.
