define indian union and indian mainland

Indian Union is used in the political sense and refers to the federal structure of the country which includes all the 29 Indian states and 7 Union territories. It denotes the division of power between the centre and the constituent units, created for administrative convenience and to represent its large diversity.The constitution, does not mention the word federation, and refers to India as a Union of states.

Indian mainland on the other hand refers to  continuous stretch of landmass from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. It denotes the geographical expand of the country.
