Define the concept of universe as used in statistics ?

Universe in statistics implies the whole set of data based on which a survey is conducted. For instance, we are conducting a survey in a classroom to find out the average marks of the students. Let's suppose there are 40 students in this class. Thus in this case, our universe consists of 40 students.
