Describe about male reproductive structure in drosophila melanogaster.(5) marker answer as per marks concerned.

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

The main structures in the male reproductive system of D.melanogaster are testes, ejaculatory duct, and accessory duct.
  • Between testes and vas deferentia, a sphicteric valve is present. This valve controls progression of sperms.
  • The deferent duct epithelium helps in reabsorbing degenerated spermatozoa and a large portion of the cell fragments present among sperm bundles in the lumen of the seminal vesicles.
  • The ejaculatory duct is secretory in nature. Its first portion actively absorbs sperms and spermatic fluid from the deferent duct and accessory glands while its distal portion injects sperm either into or through the ejaculatory bulb.
  • The ejaculatory bulb has two functions- production of a viscous secretion and its subsequent injection along with the spermatozoa into the female genital duct.
  • When mating happens, sperm produced in testes and Acps produced in accesory gland are released into the ejaculatory duct. Along with the secretions of the ejaculatory duct and bulb, these are transferred into the female.
