Describe in detail machanisms of inspiration and expiration

Dear student

Breathing is the process of air flowing into the lungs during inspiration (inhalation) and out of the lungs during expiration (exhalation).
During inspiration, the diaphragm contracts which decreases the intraalveolar pressure so that air flows into the lungs.
During expiration, the relaxation of the diaphragm occurs which increases the intraalveolar pressure and as a result air flows out of lungs.
Air flows because of pressure differences between the atmosphere and the gases inside the lungs.
The processes of inspiration and expiration are vital for providing oxygen to tissues and removing carbon dioxide from the body.
