Describe the central idea of poem fire and ice .

The poem actually describes about an imaginary debate between people who say that the world will end in fire and people who say it will end in ice. The poet could be talking about the literal end of the world, but he also talks about the power that human beings have to harm or "destroy" one another. The speaker's experience with romantic desire has taught him that the passionate or "hot" emotions like love and lust would have the power to turn the earth into a very big fireball. But he is a person who has also experienced the other extreme, and he definitely knows that the colder emotions like hate has a very great destructive power. Love gets all the exposure, but hate is the silent killer. It may not have the same magnificence as the fireball ending, but it'll do the trick.
