Describe the ghost seen by Mr. Otis . In what way was the Americans reaction to the ghost unconventional ?

Mr. Hiram Otis was the first member of the Otis family to encounter the Ghost. On the second night of their stay in Canterville Chase, Mr. Otis was awakened by the sound of chains clanking. When he opened the door of his bedroom and walked into the corridor he came face to face with the Ghost.The Ghost  was a manacled scepter, covered in a torn and grime covered shroud. According to the author, the eyes of the Ghost "were as red burning coals"and his grey matter hail fell till his shoulders. However, Mr. Otis was not the slightest frightened by the Ghost or his appearance and offered him "Tammany Rising Sun Lubricator" to oil his chains.
